In this era of technological evolution, the notion of fashion has changed. With a constant updates from social media – information is just a click away. I ever wonder how this changing pattern can make an impact on fashion which has been evolved through ages.
The word Fashion – when I learned, being born and brought up in western parts of our country, from me it was all about Bollywood – the swag carried by celebrities, their show-up of larger than life size in films and media, the cult figures creating ripples among the nation, and the high-profile unaffordable fashion brands beyond the reach of any middle-class.
The world of glamour, glittering in the eyes of fashion freaks creating fantasies of unimaginable royal & luxurious lifestyles, every now and then, add some fresh glam into the mix – kind of quirky, chic, bohemian, contemporary, traditional or any thematic swag into the look.
I wonder how the fashion evolved. What was fashion then and what is fashion now? From towering wigs to plunging necklines, cinched corsets to padded shoulders, fashion has always been a colorful reflection of any culture.
In general the word the fashion can refer to any popular trend – be it clothing, footwear, makeup, hairstyles, jewelry and any other style at any particular place and time.
If I go through resources, early fashion was simple and functional fulfilling the basic need of protection. It was designed for the protection from elements of nature. Crude sandals shielded people’s feet from rough ground. Furs and animal skins were used for the warmth more than beauty. But even the prehistoric communities embellished their skin with decorative ornamentation like shell, bones, tattoos or any other decorative source.
The notion evolved with the touch of sophistication with varied cuts and colors indication person’s gender, religion, occupation or any social stature. Later, fashion became the integral part of any culture with the complex structure creating a beautiful art form.
With the growth of technology, also comes the wearable technology. Our experience of wearable up until now has been trying out a fitness trackers and smart watches. Staying connected with the globe, accuracy of data and work efficiency are all becoming easier to operate and facilitating our lifestyles.
With smart lifestyle also comes the exploitation of Natural resources. Nothing can replace our Mother Earth; our source of energy and life ‘within’. With the consistent journey of growth traveled from need to luxury in Fashion, another need arise to sustain the natural resources which created another trend of sustainable fashion. Designers now working with varied sustainable strategies to sustain the resources of nature. Recent innovations and trends towards sustainable consumption brought the integral opportunities in the field of fashion.
Today’s era of innovation and technology has brought complexity and dynamism in the fashion sector, where the aesthetic factors, style and image are of fundamental importance to emphasize the evolved fashion. Who knows, what lies in tomorrow’s package. For today, it is a way of living of every person on earth.
